Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro (20000 mAh) – excellent power bank with USB C output
There is a widespread belief that there is Mercedes-Benz and there are all other cars. If we reformulate this phrase a little, then we can say this: there is Xiaomi and there are all the other power banks. Xiaomi smartphones can be treated in different ways, but they immediately reveal the points on which the manufacturer saved in order to give a good price. However, in power banks it is hard to find fault with something: cheap, functional, and powerful and almost without flaws. In addition, the new Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro 20,000 mAh is a prime example of this. Why do we consider Xiaomi to be one of the best USB C fast charge battery pack? Let us figure it out.

Appearance of Xiaomi USB C fast charging power bank
Xiaomi consistently chooses plastic as the case material for its most capacious portable batteries, and this makes practical sense. First, plastic does not add much bulk. Can you imagine how much this aluminum battery would weigh if it is already almost a pound? Secondly, the aluminum Xiaomi Mi Powerbank 2 (10,000 mAh) has scratched so many good things in my backpack that it has recently settled in an individual pocket. Moreover, putting one in one pocket with a smartphone without a case is a real torture for the device.
The microUSB port in this model was abandoned, but this is not scary, since Xiaomi has carefully put a short USB-A to USB-C cable in the kit, in case you do not have one for some reason.
Next to the USB-C port there is a charge indicator, familiar from other models, consisting of four LEDs. Accordingly, it is possible to determine the current charge of the battery only with an accuracy of 25%, which is still not enough for such a volume. Many manufacturers already build in simple displays that show the charge as a percentage, and Xiaomi should take a closer look at this solution.
The dimensions of the device are serious. The width corresponds to that of the iPhone X in the case; the height is almost a centimeter more. As thin as three iPhone Xs in a leather case.
Despite all the nitpicking, the Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro looks decent. It may not be as effective as its white predecessor, which has a “dotted” textured surface, but still good.
Functionality of Xiaomi power bank with USB C output
Let’s move on to the most interesting thing, namely, what this bank can do. The list of supported fast charging technologies is as follows:
|Fast charging technology||Charging power||USB⋅C||USB⋅A 1||USB⋅A 2|
|Qualcomm QC3.0||18 W||+||+||+|
|Qualcomm QC2.0||18 W||+||+||+|
|Samsung AFC (9В, 12V)||18 W||+||+||+|
|Huawei FCP (5В, 9 V)||18 W||+||+||+|
|Apple (2.4A)||12 Вт W||+||+||+|
|Power Delivery 2.0/3.0|
Profiles: 5W/3А, 9 W /3А, 12 W /3А, 15 W /3А, 20 W /2А, 5-11 W /3А PPS)
|Qualcomm QC4+27||27 W||+||–||–|
Thus, Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro will quickly charge:
- All devices with Qualcomm Quick Charge support;
- Samsung smartphones with fast charging support;
- Huawei flagships (except for devices with 22.5 W SuperCharge support, but FCP mode will work, that is, charging will be fast, but not the fastest possible);
- Apple devices without USB PD support (smartphones up to iPhone 8 / X and old tablets);
- Gadgets with USB PD support (iPhone 8 / X and newer, new iPad Pro, Google Pixel, new MacBook and other laptops with USB-C charging ports).
It is time to move on to practice, and here Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro shows its best side. I will note a few important nuances that are not often noted in reviews of portable batteries.
«Through» charging. The Xiaomi USB C fast charging power bank supports pass-through charging, which means you can connect devices to it while the battery itself is charging. Priority will be given to the connected gadgets, and when they are fully charged, the “bank” itself will start to be actively fed. Fast charging in this case will only work on the input.
Charging of low-current devices. The Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro supports charging low current accessories such as fitness trackers, smartwatches and headphones. It is curious that this mode does not need to be activated by pressing a button, as in other Xiaomi batteries, you just need to connect a low-current gadget, as usual.
Simultaneous charging. If you connect a device with fast charging support to two USB-A ports, then only one will be charged quickly, the second port will operate at a maximum of 5V / 2.4A. However, this limitation can be circumvented by connecting one smartphone to USB-A, and the other to USB-C – in this case, both devices will charge quickly. You can also connect three devices at once, in this case fast charging will go through the USB-C port (it will be given priority), and slow charging through the USB-A ports.
Test results of fast charging USB C power bank
Xiaomi claims that the USB PD (45W) charges the battery for 4.5 hours, but I managed to get a much more interesting result. When charging with a MacBook Air 2018 (30W) unit, the battery showed 100% in about 4 hours. According to the owners of 45-watt blocks, the «bank» is charged with them for about 3.5 hours. When charging with a block with QC 3.0 support, it also took 30 minutes less than the declared one – 6 hours. I have not tested charging with a simple 10-watt adapter, it is a very long time.
It is worth noting that Xiaomi always honestly writes in the characteristics the minimum effective capacity, that is, how much energy with all the transformations and losses a portable battery can actually give. In this model, it is declared at 12,600 mAh, but some enthusiastic users managed to squeeze out about 14,000 mAh. However, it must be remembered that losses depend on speed – the higher the charging speed and the steeper the technology, the more energy is lost during conversion. Nevertheless, the average figure of 12,600 mAh of real capacity can be trusted.
The USB C fast charge battery pack Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro is an almost ideal portable battery for travel and even for everyday use if you are not too lazy to carry an almost 440 gram bar with you. It can be used to quickly charge smartphones, tablets, any accessories and even laptops. At the same time, in the latter case, you will not have to make compromises, since power up to 45 W provides charging no slower than most complete adapters, and the capacity allows you to charge an average laptop from 0 to 100% in a couple of hours.
Among the competitors of Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro, the ZMI QB820 can be noted – it has similar characteristics, but better quality 18650 batteries, a metal case, and a USB hub. Due to this, it costs at least 1000-1500 rubles more. There is also a model ZMI QB815 with 15 600 mAh, it is a little more compact, but also costs significantly more. I have not seen any other models that have such an interesting price and at the same time could deliver 30-45 W through the USB-C port. If you know, then be sure to write in the comments.
